Biggest medal haul for Runnymede at Specsavers Surrey Youth Games in more than 10 years.
In the sweltering heat of the hottest weekend of the year 17-18 June, Runnymede players were in action at the Surrey Sports Park at the Specsavers Surrey Youth Games along with thousands of other young competitors and came away with their largest medal haul in more than 10 years.
Runnymede entered 28 teams into the competition following eight weeks of free training.
More than 400 young people took part in the training and 200 were selected to take part in the competition.
Borough team organiser Suzi Bowen said: "The Specsavers Surrey Youth Games is a fantastic opportunity for young people to not only try a new sport but also make new friends and take part in a County-wide competition.
"Many of these young people will now go on to join local clubs and go on to even bigger and better things which helps keep sport developing within our borough.
"This year we have had coaches and officials who have all started their sporting careers as players at the Surrey Youth Games and are now helping others to have the same experience that they did, and that is a fantastic legacy for the programme to have."
Medal winners were:
Deputy Mayor Dolsie Clarke and VIP guest Councillor Scott Lewis attended the event and saw the Runnymede team in actions.
Cllr Lewis said: "The look of enjoyment on those talking part, even considering the hot weather, makes it all worthwhile. It was a great afternoon spent watching and talking to those involved" .

A big thank you to the 30 SYG Young Ambassadors who signed up this year to help promote the word on SYG! We met at the Civic Offices on Thursday 22 February to discuss what being an Ambassador involves and brainstorm about how we can best promote the Specsavers Surrey Youth Games to everyone.
Runnymede Ambassadors have an important role for Team Runnymede as our voice in the community, helping promote the event at their school and to their friends and family.
The ambassadors are paramount in promoting the SYG among school friends and family by helping in school assemblies and spreading the word about the Games. Each year we encourage those who have participated in the Surrey Youth Games in previous years to become an Ambassador.
If your child is interested in becoming a young ambassador for 2019, their role will involve:
In return for volunteering all ambassadors will receive an SYG Ambassador t-shirt. If your child is going to undertake a Duke of Edinburgh award, it is an ideal opportunity to get some voluntary hours signed off.
If your child would like to register as an ambassador to promote the event at their school, please send their details to the Community Development Officer (Sport & Health).
