Town Centre Regeneration

Runnymede Borough Council is committed to regenerating the Borough's town centres, as well as improving infrastructure and public facilities in the area. The regeneration of Addlestone Town Centre is already well advanced, and the Council has entered into a development agreement with Places for People to pursue further regeneration schemes including Egham Town Centre and Egham Leisure Centre.

Places for People is one of the UK's largest property development and regeneration companies with a strong track record in building sustainable communities and mixed-use developments.

Addlestone Town Centre

Addlestone Town Centre is being transformed to provide new shops, a cinema, gym, homes and public spaces. Construction of the £90m Addlestone ONE development, a partnership between Runnymede Borough Council and Bouygues Developments, is well under way with Phase 1 nearing completion and Phase 2 due to finish in spring 2018. Egham Town Centre

The Council is working with its development partner Places for People to bring forward a new cultural quarter in the Station Road North area of Egham Town Centre. Public consultation was undertaken in July and September 2017 to give residents and retailers the opportunity to comment on the proposals.

The plans include a new 750-seat theatre and performing arts academy for the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, together with student accommodation, retail units and new public realm enhancements. The academy is due to open in the summer 2020 with the theatre scheduled for autumn 2020.

Chertsey Town Centre

The Council, alongside Surrey County Council, commissioned an independent master plan that identified specific design enhancements and development opportunities for further regeneration. The aim is to increase economic activity, retail and commercial competitiveness while respecting the historic character of the town.

This 2013 work followed the modernisation of the southern part of Chertsey Town Centre in the 1990s. This improved the prosperity of the town and enhanced the environment.
